Awards

2009 Best Paper Award, Canadian Journal of Earth Sciences, for "Mesoproterozoic carbonate systems in the Borden Basin, Nunavut"

1999 PhD Thesis Award, Canadian Society of Petroleum Geologists

Research Areas

  • Tectonostratigraphic analysis and economic potential of Proterozoic and Paleozoic sedimentary basins in northern Canada
  • Carbonate sedimentology, stratigraphy, and geochemistry
  • Carbonate-hosted metal deposits
  • Shale basins
  • Proterozoic and Paleozoic reefs and microbialites
  • Tufa and travertine
  • Early evolution of animals

My primary field-based research is currently aimed at understanding the tectonostratigraphic evolution of Proterozoic and Paleozoic sedimentary basins in northern Canada, and how their geological evolution dictated the present-day distribution of metal and hydrocarbon deposits.
