Lithological and Stratigraphic Relationships of the Swayze Area, Abitibi Greenstone Belt
To establish the lithological and stratigraphic relationships to get a better understanding of the mineral potential. The research focus on the nature and depositional timing of the various sedimentary packages.
Iron Formation Project. Work on gold mineralization in banded iron formation. A PhD student is using geochemistry to answer two questions: why gold mineralization occurs in some but not all iron formations and whether a semi-hydrothermal footprint can be detected around gold in iron formation. This project is looking at the Musselwhite Mine in the Superior Province (Goldcorp), the Meadowbank mine and the Meliadine project in the Churchill Province (Agnico-Eagle Mines) and gold deposits in the Beardmore-Geraldton belt (Premier Gold Mines). Hydrothermal Au Mineralization
The tectonic, structural and stratigraphic setting, and origin of eastern Trans-Hudson Orogen Gold Deposits at Snow Lake, Manitoba. This research will reconstruct the deformation history of the Snow Lake Allochton to determine regional- and deposit-scale structural (stratigraphic) controls on gold mineralization at the New Britannia gold deposits, Snow Lake , Manitoba. Volcanological, Structural and Metamorphic reconstruction of the Snow Lake VMS District, Manitoba.
This research aims to reconstruct the tectonic, magmatic, volcanic and metamorphic evolution of the Snow Lake District in order to better understand the metallogenesis of its contained volcanogenic massive sulfide (VMS) deposits, and to provide new constraints on the metallogeny of juvenile arc sequences within the western Trans-Hudson Orogen that will aid exploration. This research is conducted by the principal investigators and graduate students Margret Engelbert, PhD, Judy Lam, MSc, and second, TBA MSc student, plus 3 undergraduate students and with our colleagues at HudBay Minerals Inc., the Manitoba Geological Survey, and the Geological Survey of Canada. The metallogeneis of VMS deposits within the Cretaceous Guerrero Terrain, Mexico and reasons for their precious metal enrichment.
This research will reconstruct the volcanic, structural and magmatic evolution of VMS hosting successions within the Guerrero Terrain and will determine controls on their precious metal enrichment. The research is being conducted by the principal investigators, our colleagues at Servicios de Exploracion Penoles S.A., and 3 MSc students. Petrogenesis of Chromite and Ni-Cu-PGE Mineralization in the Black Thor - Black Label Intrusive Complex, McFaulds Greenstone Belt, Ontario: This study of the largest and best-preserved chromitite deposit in the "Ring of Fire" area will involve a PhD project by Heather Carson on the petrogenesis of the Black Thor chromitite and the system as a whole, a MSc project by Naghmeh Farhangi on the Ni-Cu-PGE mineralization, a MSc project by Charles Spath on the Black Label horizon, and a MSc project by Kaveh Mehrmanesh on the Black Label pyroxenite.
