Julian David Melo Gomez
MSc Geology StudentGold fingerprinting of deposits across Ontario
"I am from Colombia, where I completed a BSc Geology at Universidad Nacional de Colombia. I focused on economic geology and mineral deposits, mainly gold. Before coming to Canada, I worked three years in collaborative exploration and ore characterization projects between academia and the Colombian Geological Survey, which permitted me to work on tens of deposits throughout my country. One of these projects was the Gold Fingerprinting which is now the topic of my research at Laurentian, and within Metal Earth.
The scope of my research is to better understand the gold microchemical signature from the most significant deposits across Ontario with the aim to create a freely available database. This data will define unique elemental associations which have the potential to provide a new perspective on gold ore systems; and that can be used in exploration, forensic geology, archaeology, among others."
