Graduate Programs

The Harquail School of Earth Sciences (HES) provides graduate students with options to enhance their knowledge and areas of expertise.

Students can choose from: 

  • M.Sc. Geology – Thesis
  • M.Sc. Geology - Applied Mineral Exploration
  • M.Sc. Geology – Applied Mineral Exploration (Accelerated)

These options provide graduate students with the opportunity to dedicate themselves to full-time studies and research projects, or to choose a course-based MSc designed to be completed in one year if studying full-time, or two years, studying part-time.

Open Graduate Projects 

HES and the Mineral Exploration Research Centre have opportunities for qualified students to take on fully-funded projects. Visit our Careers/Research Opportunities page to view available projects & apply now! 

Modular Courses

Our intensive 10-day Modular Courses may be applied for credit towards an MSc, and are popular with practicing geologists to keep their skills and knowledge up-to-date.

Research Areas

HES offers unparalleled opportunities for undergraduate and graduate studies in ore deposits, structural geology, geophysics, mineralogy, igneous and metamorphic petrology, sedimentology, stratigraphy, paleontology and environmental geosciences.
