HES offers up to $112,000 in undergraduate scholarships in 2026

The Harquail BSc Scholarships were generously established by David Harquail and Family to help students start and continue their education at the Harquail School of Earth Sciences. 

January 2026: Harquail Entrance Scholarships ($20,000)

Up to 4x $5,000 scholarships for 1st year students

To apply:

  1. Be registered in the Earth Sciences program in January 2026. If you’re not in the program yet, you can switch to Earth Sciences by emailing our BSc coordinator, Pedro Jugo at pjugo@laurentian.ca, cc’ing Roxane Mehes at rmehes@laurentian.ca.
  2. Submit your high-school transcript and a cover letter (~300 words) that describes why you chose to study Earth Sciences at Laurentian University. The letter and transcript should be submitted to hes@laurentian.ca by January 16, 2026. A selection committee will rank the applicants based on their transcripts and letters. Up to 4 eligible students will receive scholarships.

September 2026: Harquail Entrance Scholarships ($20,000)

Up to 4x $5,000 scholarships for 1st year students

To apply:

  1. Be admitted and registered in the Earth Sciences program in September 2026
  2. Submit your high-school transcript and a cover letter (~300 words) that describes why you chose to study Earth Sciences at Laurentian University. The letter and transcript should be submitted to hes@laurentian.ca by September 22, 2026. A selection committee will rank the applicants based on their transcripts and letters. Up to 4 eligible students will receive scholarships.

September 2026: Harquail Academic Excellence Scholarships ($72,000)

1st place ($5,000), 2nd place ($4,000), 3rd place ($3,000), and up to 12x $1,000 scholarships for each academic year (2nd year, 3rd year and 4th year).

To apply:

  1. Be registered in the Earth Sciences program in Fall 2026 in 2nd, 3rd or 4th year.
  2. Submit your transcript and a letter (~300 words) that describes your experience in the program. This could include academic challenges, achievements, opportunities, surprises, and how your experience is shaping your future. The letter and transcript should be submitted to hes@laurentian.ca by September 22, 2026. A selection committee will rank the applicants based on their transcripts (GPA average and/or GPA increase) and letters. Up to 15 eligible students will receive scholarships.
