The Harquail School: Who we are and what we do

Laurentian University's Department of Earth Sciences was renamed to the Harquail School of Earth Sciences in September 2016, the Harquail Family invested $10M into Laurentian University’s Department of Earth Sciences and the $104M Metal Earth project commenced. The Department of Earth Sciences was then renamed to the Harquail School of Earth Sciences.
Historically, this Earth Sciences department started educating geologists in the 1960’s and has grown substantially and gained momentum ever since. Some of today’s industry leaders have earned their degrees in Geology at this department: Paul Rollinson, CEO and President of Kinross Gold Corporation, Joshua Bailey, Vice President of Exploration at Wallbridge Mining and Ashley Kirwan, Vice President of Orix Geoscience, just to name a few.
Undergraduate students can now obtain B.Sc. degrees in Earth Sciences or Environmental Geoscience:

The now 16 faculty members at the Harquail School of Earth Sciences are proven leaders in their fields, recognized through winning reputable awards (for instance three winners of the prestigious Duncan Ramsay Derry Medal from the Geological Association of Canada) and making Laurentian by far the leading Canadian university in Economic Geology funding. The faculty roster includes a Canada Research Chair in Metallogeny and a Research Chair in Exploration Targeting.
